QueenieHi Virginia,

I'm thinking it was way back in 2001, I sent you three manuscripts. You suggested, regarding The Winter Sparrows, I contact the Melbourne Zoo to see what information they might have there. I jumped onto the zoo website and I will never know how I ended up away from the birds and among the elephants, but I did and it was there I found a page on Queenie. I read about her once and cried, then again and cried some more but in that moment I knew I would write her story. The rest, as they say is history and Queenie One Elephant's Story became my first picture book. I had published around 20 educational school readers before that but my greatest wish had been to have a picture book out on the bookshop shelves.

My latest picture book, Scruffle-Nut is about to be launched in London and illustrator Owen Swan and I are going to attend the launch (a bit exciting.) Scruffle-Nut began in 2012 in New York when I was there to attend a SCBWI Conference. One day I was walking though Central Park watching the grey squirrels scramble about the bare branches and I started writing it there. Along the way I've met some wonderful people while researching both fiction and non-fiction books, some covers are wearing stickers and I was very fortunate to have two picture books chosen as themes for the Myer Christmas windows (Little Dog and the Christmas Wish (2015-2018) and One Christmas Eve (2016-2019).

You asked for a list of my books which follow below. My greatest pleasure is reading a book to a group of children and hearing only silence. I know then I have done my job.

Queenie One Elephant's Story, The Dog on the Tuckerbox, Flame Stands Waiting, Hey Baby!, Chasing Shadows, Hey Mum I Love You, Hey Dad You're Great, Little Dog and the Christmas Wish, Hey Baby It's Christmas, Bob the Railway Dog, You Have My Heart, Counting on You, One Christmas Eve, My Friend Tertius, Little Dog and the Summer Holiday, A Cat Called Trim, Scruffle-Nut with two more on the way in 2020.
