Sarah Remembers

Sarah RemembersSarah remembers summers spent with her Nan by the sea … exploring the world left behind at low tide.’ A pastime connecting five generations of Sarah’s family. Sarah Remembers, focuses on Sarah’s relationship with her Nan and then with her own daughter. The quest for each generation, is to find the shell they know as a ‘cowrie,’ and cry, ‘I’ve found one!’ Through this simple ritual, the ‘cowrie,’ has become a talisman and generations of ‘Sarah’s,’ family are linked because of it. I hope by reading, Sarah Remembers, others will be prompted to reflect on traditions connecting generations of their families.

Sarah Remembers, is a story with gentle humour, poignancy and hope.

Water colour illustrations by illustrator, Susan Richards, capture the essence of the story in a retro style. Graphic Designer, Natalie Birch at www.ideasministry.com.au, helped with book production.
Without Virginia Lowe and Eileen Nelson’s manuscript assessment in 2005, ‘Sarah Remembers,’ wouldn’t be published. Their thorough, critically constructive and encouraging feedback has stayed with me, despite letters of rejection from publishers. Thank you, Virginia and Eileen. I kept your assessment notes. They motivated me to find a way to publish. Now, fourteen years later, Sarah Remembers, is self-published by The Tale Trail. I am inspired more than ever to keep writing and publishing.
